EBA CLEARING delivers and manages market infrastructure solutions for the processing of both individual and mass payment transactions in euro serving a wide community of banks across Europe. EBA CLEARING operates two Systemically Important Payments Systems (SIPS) for payments denominated in euro: EURO1 and STEP2.
EURO1 is a large value net settlement system for single payments in euro, operating alongside TARGET since the start of Stage III of the European Monetary Union. Since 2000, EBA CLEARING has also been running the STEP1 Service on the EURO1 platform, which processes single commercial payments in euro.
STEP2 is a pan-European payment infrastructure for mass payments (Pan-European Automated Clearing House – PE-ACH) providing full reach to all financial institutions across Europe processing SEPA Credit Transfers and Direct Debits. More than 4,800 financial institutions in 34 countries are reachable via STEP2. EBA CLEARING has been managing the STEP2 platform since 2003. A separate system for card based payments, which initially constituted a service that was part of the STEP2 system, has been live since May 2016.
